SEM Times (Issue 14) – SEO Proof Domain Redirection on IIS Server

Dear Reader,

Let us take this opportunity to educate you about some technical aspects of SEO.

Safe Domain redirection is critical to maintain your organic rankings in Search Engine Optimization. Redirection via Javascript or Meta Refresh tag is normally frown upon by Google. However, you can put 301 redirection safely in your site by following the below mentioned step by step process.

For IIS Server:

If you have admin access to the IIS server, follow the steps below:

1. Start Internet Services Manager. Alternatively, start the IIS Snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

2. Click to expand * server name, where server name is the name of the server.

3. Right-click either the Web site or the folder that you want to redirect, and then click Properties.

4. Click one of the following tabs that is appropriate to your situation:

• Home Directory
• Virtual Directory
• Directory

5. Under when connecting to this resource, the content should come from, click A redirection to a URL.

6. Type the URL of the destination folder or Web site in the Redirect to box.

For example, to redirect all requests for http://www.mydomain1.com/ to http://www.mydomain2.com, type http://www.mydomain2.com.

7. Click OK.

If you do not have admin access to the IIS server, then we will share about the alternative approach in our next issue.

Till then, keep blogging!

SEM Times (Issue 13) - Yahoo Search Marketing is Growing!

Dear Reader,

According to SEMPO, search engine marketers spent over 10b US$ in 2006. Majority of this spending is represented by paid advertising. Google Adwords was the most popular and a dominant PPC program. However, over the last few months, Yahoo Search Marketing has been growing and started giving competition to Google.

Although, Google Adwords is expected to remain the leading player for this year as well, advertisers should try Yahoo as well in addition to Google Adwords.

Check out Yahoo Search Marketing UK and Yahoo Search Marketing US to find out how they can bring more customers to your site.

SEM Times (Issue 12) - Participation in forums.

Dear Reader,

In online marketing, participation in discussion forums play a vital role. Forums are beneficial in the following ways:

Communicating with your potential customers - let's say you're selling designer jeans and you've built an online community for that designer label. Need to promote your latest line of designer jeans? Do it through the forums!

Gaining customer intelligence - almost all online communities have forums. At least that's how people communicate with one another. When people communicate, they use messages and it is from these messages that you can get your marketing information - you can know what people like and what people don't like.

Selling advertising space - once you've gotten yourself a thriving community - it's time to generate some side income by selling advertising space on your forums.

Here nothing to lose, only gain!

Keep Participation!

Best wishes,
